As the Director of Children and Family Ministries I love what I get to do at CityChurch, but never more so than we have our annual Family Christmas Experience- a fun-filled hour where everyone from preschool to some pretty talented CityChurch students and adults get to play a part. This year, the theme of the experience was remembering the greatest gift ever given, the perfect, free, everlasting gift of Jesus.
We began our morning with the return of our LittleCITY Handbell Choir performing “O Holy Night” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain.” The real show stopper here was their unbelievable cuteness! Our BIGCity kids then helped to lead worship with some awesome dance moves choreographed by our own talented Bridgette Robinson. The children led the congregation in the high energy Lincoln Brewster versions of “Little Drummer Boy” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
A light-hearted game show “Must Have Christmas Gifts of the Past” as well as a fun drama where each Christmas present turned to ashes helped remind everyone that Christmas isn’t about the gifts under the tree. Instead, it’s about celebrating the indescribable gift of Jesus’ birth.
Every element of the morning was special, but this year’s highlight might very well have been a parody song sung by Ryan Rich and Sophie Hardy. Parodies might need to become a traditional part of our Family Christmas Experience. Check this year’s out here!
